Hi, I’m Joan Denizot, President of Zize Bikes and Super Sized Cycles. I’ve been working on developing my company for over 6 years now. Six years during some of the most challenging economic times most of us have ever experienced.
I’ d like to ask you to take a minute and complete a simple task. Just go to www.missionsmallbusiness.com, click the “support” button and register through your Facebook account, and then type in “Zize Bikes” under “Business Name” and click search. Our company will pop up. Then click “support.” That’s it—that’s all you have to do. With that action you’ve voted for my company! We need at least 250 votes to be considered for the large grant that will help us grow.
If you’re like me, before I was in business I’d always wondered why it mattered if there were small businesses out there. I mean, thank God for Costco and the big guys that help keep costs manageable. But when I got bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, I started to understand why small business is so important. It’s not that we don’t need and appreciate the big guys, but it’s the small businesses that are the heart and soul of what makes America great. It’s small businesses that grow into the Costcos and Walmarts of the world. It’s small businesses that help out individuals with issues that may seem insignificant to the big guys. Issues like “will this bike hold my weight?”
I am always searching for investors who are willing to risk some of their hard-earned cash to invest in my company, which is almost uniformly described as “a brilliant idea—why didn’t I think of that?” My results at attracting investors have been sparse, at best. My most consistent investor is yours truly.
Why should you care about this? Well, there are a number of reasons.
- You’re looking for a bike to ride. A bicycle that’s safe for a person of your size. Frankly, it amazes me that with the size statistics that are out there, more people aren’t competing for the market. HELLO? A lot of us are a lot bigger than the safe bike load!
So, you may say, Zize Bikes by Super Sized Cycles already exists—why do anything else?
- We’d like to create more bikes, available at different price points, so that more people can safely access the joy of cycling. Look, we know our bikes are kind of pricey. This is because they are VERY expensive to make and because we are very small, so we don’t get the very real economies of scale that the big guys get.
“Well, that’s great, but what about me? I need a good job to be able to afford a Zize Bike—at ANY price point.”
- We have been consistent in our desire to keep our jobs in the USA. So concerned are we that we were a cover business story in the New York Times a couple of years ago. (Read about it here.) We are actually one of a handful of bicycle manufacturing companies that actually build their frames in the US. We also assemble the bikes here. And they’ve written about us some more at Nomad Editions! Our growth will mean more jobs in manufacturing, engineering, marketing, sales, delivery, ecommerce, etc. This means jobs for you and others like you.
If by chance this article finds its’ way to an investor who is interested in a company that’s sure to grow, that would be awesome. I’d love to talk to you! Please, email me at Joan@ZizeBikes.com. If you don’t have the money to invest but would like to support our growth, please go to www.missionsmallbusiness.com, and support Zize Bikes. Thank you. We make change one step at a time, and I appreciate your time and effort.
