You have probably heard about sculptures made from bicycle chains but maybe you have not seen anything like those created by Seo Young Deok before.
This South Korean artist’s pieces of art are inspired by the shapes of the human body, the elements already used by artists for hundreds of years. But what makes his works special and incredible is the materials he used and how intricately he puts them together. He welds many miles of metal chains in such a way that they form the human body even to the finest details.
Seo Young says his art is inspired by crowded places like bus stations and market. He also particularly like Buddhist paintings and sculptures. He says that he likes the beauty of Asia, so most of his works “seem to take an Asiatic pose.”
His 7 feet 6 inches head sculpture he calls the Nirvana stands out from all of his artworks in his new series Dystopia. The strikingly detailed gigantic head sculpture is made of over one mile of bicycle chain painstakingly welded piece by piece for over a year and it costs more than $40,000.
