One of the important bicycling skills you need to learn is how to pedal properly, so you’ll have a more efficient and safe ride. Some riders get tired easily because they are pedaling the wrong way.
There’s a right way and a wrong way to start a bike from a stop. You have probably seen riders with a foot on their pedal and the other foot paddling along on the pavement trying to get their bicycle rolling. This can pose danger. When you are trying to cross a wide road, you may not be able to get enough speed to help you avoid crashing with cross-traffic.
For situations like this, you have to apply the power pedal technique. This technique is relatively simple. To execute this, just pull one pedal (one which feels more natural for you) up so it is about two-thirds from the top of the pedal rotation. Then put your foot on that pedal and stand on it. This would naturally push you up and onto your saddle, your other foot could find its pedal easily. Now you are completely in control of your bicycle and can accelerate and shift as necessary.
