My wife and I ride Class 1 e-bikes locally and take them on out-of-state trips as well. These helmets work great โฆ Iโm no longer left trying to explain what I yelled or what this or that arm movement was meant to communicate. They pair easily, have good sound quality and weโd estimate the range as at least 1/4 mile. Weโve gone on multiple hour rides and theyโve always remained charged and operational. Wind noise, background hum etc. is not an issue at all. Ok, if we stand right next to each other there is a bit of an echo as we can hear each other talking as well through the otherโs helmet. But thatโs really not a concern as the helmets are easy to turn on and off without removing them. They are also comfortable to wear and easy to adjust. Our e-bike rides are now safer as can easily call out obstacles without turning our heads or taking our hands off the handlebars. And our rides are now also a time we can just talk. We highly recommend these helmets.

I very rarely write reviews, but felt this helmet deserved one. I have been training for endurance events and 1/2 Ironman races and often go on long training rides alone. I like listening to Podcasts or E-books to pass the time and stay engaged, sometimes music is nice as well.I don’t want ear buds since they block the ear, but also can come lose and fall out and don’t want to risk losing or breaking them. I have a set of open ear sport headphones that I used before getting the Sena R2 Evo. Those were uncomfortable with a helmet on and didn’t quite work out too well.The Sena R2 Evo is awesome for me. It makes my long rides way more entertaining listening to Audible as I ride. It is very comfortable and works great. Having the red flashing light on the back is also nice as well. The phone call and wind stopping mic works surprisingly well if you need to pickup a call on a ride. You no longer need to stop and pull over.The sound quality is not great, but it is more than functional. The music is a little tinny, but then again for the price and size of the speakers, it can be expected. Maybe something like a Bose version would have much better, but then cost 3-4 times more. For what it is, it is great.For individual training, the Sena R2 has been awesome.Another really great feature of the R2 Evo is the mesh intercom. My wife trains for similar events and although we don’t get to train too much together, unless we have babysitting, the mesh intercom is awesome. Riding without the R2 Evo, you barely can hear each other unless you are right next to each other. This past weekend, we did a weekend cycling getaway to explore the foliage and some wineries. We opened the mesh intercom and were able to chat for the several hours we rode. The connection is great and works over a pretty long range.The biggest thing I found was that it allowed us to hang out together on a ride in a way that couldn’t do before. It was helpful to call out road obstacles and our turns, but really just having a way to casually chat during the ride is well worth the price.I highly recommend for anyone that rides together regularly.

Iโm happy with this purchase, helmet looks great, and fits greatโฆvery comfortable. The Bluetooth component works well, easily paired with phone. The microphone works really well and wind noise is very minimal. My only complaint is the audio quality for playing music. The quality literally sounds like an old AM radioโฆat best. In todayโs day and age of great sounding earbuds and smaller speakers, itโs hard to believe that Sena couldnโt come up with better sounding speakers. Iโm not expecting the sound you get in home speakers, but anything is better than what this sounds like. Itโs the only thing holding this helmet back from being great.

Pros: +once you get your phone paired first time, syncing the helmet to the phone and turning on mesh intercom is very seamless.+ unlimited number of riders can get communicate on the mesh intercom+ solid 1/2 mile of range (line of sight will impact range)+ works with Siri or other voice assistants+ equipped with a safety light with three modesCons- at $200 per helmet it is an expensive option- sound quality of phone calls or music is not great but is functional.- no visor available on the Sena R2 evo- Sena does not offer MIPS protection in any of their line of cycling helmetsThe wife and I just bought two e-bikes and after a couple of rides we realized we were wanting a way to be able to talk to each other without having to shout. Also trying to ride in a suburban area that has a lot of traffic and not great bike lanes we were wanting to be able to warn each other of hazards. These helmets were a perfect solution for our communication challenges. They are definitely at the upper end of cycling helmet prices but the R2 Evo does perform as advertised. I would prefer they had MIPS protection but these helmets are comfortable and fit well. The large helmet size fits me well (I wear a 7 3/8 hat size). If the price doesnโt scare you away, I do recommend these helmets for couples or larger groups looking for a good communication solution.

My friend and I each bought one of these so we could talk to each other during our bike rides. They work perfectly! Easy to set up and the sound is really clear. Worth the money. Adds to safety too, you can give each other a heads up about obsticles, turns, slow riders, etc.

I was fortunate to pick up this helmet for 130 bucks and I love it. It fits very comfortably and I absolutely love having navigation run through the helmet’s speakers especially when taking trips in unfamiliar areas. The sound quality for music isn’t great, but it’s not horrible, either- don’t expect much bass. Personally I like hearing what’s going on around me when I’m riding and the volume levels/speaker placement are just about perfect to enjoy tunes while also being cognizant of what’s going on. I can’t attest to the mesh technology as I ride by myself. I did get a call from telemarketer while I was out the other day and the call quality was great even though I hung up pretty quickly on them. The only thing I wish this had was a good, built in camera.

ACHTUNG: LANGE Rezension, da einige Beschreibungen zur Handhabung und Planung enthalten sind , die wir so nicht direkt gefunden haben – fรผr Interessierte als Information.Fazit vorweg: SEHR gut, wir sind begeistert und absolut zufrieden!(EDIT: Mit EVO – Stand 26.8.23:Wir haben nach knapp 5 Monaten bedauerlicherweise eine Verรคnderung zu verzeichnen: Die Verbindung ist nicht mehr stabil, es gibt erhebliche Stรถrgerรคusche. Diese lassen sich IMMER durch Auskoppeln des Masterhelmes oder spรคtestens durch Aus- und wieder Einschalten desselben beheben, aber das ist wรคhrend der Fahrt schon nicht ganz ungefรคhrlich, an den Knรถpfen derart lange rumspielen zu mรผssen.Auf der letzten Fahrt hatten wir auf 57km acht Unterbrechungen, das wird inakzeptabel.Da sich die Gruppenkonstellation sowieso geรคndert hat – wir sind jetzt fรผnf bis sieben Teilnehmer, Tendenz potenziell steigend – war BT aber sowieso die โfalsche Entscheidungโ, so dass wir den teureren EVO Helmen jetzt doch eine Chance gegeben und ein zweites Mal investiert haben.Ersteindruck: Wieder extrem gut (ich melde hier nochmals nach ebenfalls fรผnf Monaten) – sogar besser, als ohne EVO (Tonqualitรคt) – Der Abfall der Tonqualitรคt bei mehr als zwei Helmen, wie bei den Modellen ohne EVO ist nicht zu verzeichnen! Des Weiteren entfallen (bei uns) die รbertragungen der Windgerรคusche von den anderen Teilnehmern.Das Handling ist – technologiebedingt – ebenfalls sehr viel einfacher: Die gesamte unten beschriebene โPlanungsweiseโ entfรคllt vollstรคndig und kein Teilnhemer muss sich รผberlegen, wann sich wer einschaltet.Doppel- und Dreifachklicks entfallen. Bei den EVO Helmen kommt auch die in der Anleitung versprochene Akkustandsmeldung. Der EVO helm gibt trotz Intercom Navigationsanweisungen des Mobiltelefons aus.Die Helme ohne EVO werden wir wohl verkaufen.Details (zu den Helmen OHNE EVO):Dies ist unser dritter Versuch, eine Kommunikation auf dem Fahrrad zu realisieren.Erster Versuch waren die kleinen, chinesischen Teile mit monauralem Headset. Diese waren in der Kopplung sehr aufwรคndig und haben sich so oft โverschlucktโ, dass eine Anwendung nicht wirklich sinnvoll war: Fuhr mal eine(r) aus der Gruppe zu weit, flog sie/er aus der Gruppe oder es gab unerkรคrliche Verbindungsabbrรผche. Beide Situationen waren ohne Aus- und Anschalten und erneutem Koppeln nicht zu beheben – Akzeptanz also nicht gut, damit Schrankware.Zweiter Versuch waren โechteโ Funkgerรคte. Hier natรผrlich die Verbindung ohne jegliche Fummelei stabil und die Entfernung phantastisch. PTT allerdings am Fahrrad eine Herausforderung – so dass trotz hรถherer allgemeiner Akzeptanz die generelle Nutzungshรคufigkeit niedrig war und die Hรคufigkeit der Kommunikation mittels erhobener Stimme hoch. Das war nicht im Sinne der Anwender*innen, daher auch dieser Ansatz (fรผr uns) dysfunktional.Sena R2 nun scheint das โRichtigeโ.Wie in anderen Rezensionen und auf YT beschrieben, ist die Qualitรคt tatsรคchlich unfassbar gut.Reale Straรenentfernung etwa 350m, im Wald etwa 250m – also fรผr โgemeinsamesโ Radfahren mehr als ausreichend.Mit nach vorne gerichtetem Kopf selbst bei 50km/h mit Gegenwind keinerlei (!) Windgerรคusch vom Gesprรคchspartner – die eigenen (Wind-)Abrissgerรคusche am Helm stรถren wesentlich mehr, verstehen kann man sich einander dennoch (nichtmal maximal laut gestellt). Windgerรคusche von Partner*in treten dann auf, wenn der Kopf nach unten geht (Blick auf die Fรผรe) oder bei Seitenblicken mit Kopfbeteiligung – ab ca. 45 Grad Seitwรคrtsdrehung.Etwas, das mir beim Kauf der Helme NICHT bewusst war, mich aber nicht vom Kauf abhielte: Wenn mehr als zwei Personen verbunden sind (das ist unser Anwendungsfall), wird die Telefonverbindung abgeschaltet! (Steht auch so im Handbuch – aber natรผrlich nicht in der Produktbeschreibung des Verkรคufers).Das ist fรผr uns nicht dramatisch, fรผr andere Anwendungsfรคlle / Bedรผrfnisse aber evtl. hinderlich.Des Weiteren (fรผr mich auch nicht dramatisch, hatte ich mir aber ebenfalls anders vorgestellt) ist aufgrund der Priorisierung der Anwendungen (Telefon-Intercom-Musik) Musik oder Stream vom Mobiltelefon dann und nur dann zu empfangen, wenn man Intercom ABschaltet! – Irgendwo im WWW hatte ich sogar einen Hinweis auf โgemeinsamesโ Musikhรถren gesehen oder gelesen – das funktioniert definitv (auf den hier liegenden Helmen) nicht.Einen Haufen Frust spart man sich beim Paaren der Helme und in der Verbindung der selbigen bei der Anwendung, wenn man das Prinzip verstanden hat und das Ganze ein bisschen plant โฆPositiv zur beurteilen ist die BT Verbindung und der zugehรถrige Speichermechanismus der BT-Verbindngen in ihrer Flexibilitรคt besser als erwartet und besser, als im Handbuch angegeben! (s.u.).Wichtigster (im Handbuch auch so angegebener, aber wohl hรคufig รผbersehener) Faktor: Im Modus โKopplung Intercomโ jeweils nur die Mitteltaste EINES Helmes drรผcken und LรNGER warten, als man so vermutetโฆ.Zweiter wichtiger Faktor (Planung): โDer letzte wird zuerst bedientโ – Handbuch Kapitel 7.2. Das bedeutet, dass vorher รผberlegt werden muss, wer beim Einfach-, Zweifach- oder sogar Dreifachklick erreicht werden soll.Dritter wichtiger Faktor: Handhabung – Wie schnell ist ein Doppel- oder Dreifachklick? Das hat zunรคchst fรผr die grรถรte Verwirrung und die hรถchste Rate an Nichtverbindungen gesorgt: Die Geschwindigkeit ist geringer, als (von uns) erwartet – es mรผssen zwei (drei) aufeinanderfolgende Tรถne hรถrbar sein – dann hat man die richtige Frequenz getroffen.Vierter wichtiger Faktor: Jeden Helm mit jedem Helm koppeln!Laut Anleitung ist es sinnvoll, einen โMasterhelmโ zu definieren, von dem man ausgeht. So erscheint der โMasterhelmโ nicht zwingend erforderlich.Falls wir um den vierten Helm erweitern, ergรคnze ich hier. Ich gehe davon aus, dass ich mit den vier Helmen auch wieder einen Masterhelm (A) nutzen werde. Das heiรt, dass ich (wie bei der Erweiterung von 2 auf 3 Helmen) alle Helme zurรผcksetze und mit leerer Konfiguration anfange.Sonst kommt (โDer letzte wird zuerst bedientโ ) – bei Helm A beim Einfachklick nicht B, sondern D โฆViel Spaร – wir haben ihn definitiv.

Has transformed my commute
I read the reviews and was a little uncertain whether to buy one of these helmets. I did a bit of research and this helmet kept coming up in the top 5 smart helmets. It arrived quickly and the set up was really easy. You don’t need to use the Sena R2 app to connect to your phone. It connected via bluetooth very easily. I’ve mainly been listening to Radio 4, podcasts and audio books. I had read reviews which said people couldn’t hear the speakers over the sound of the traffic or the wind. I live in central London and I’ve been cycling along really busy roads during rush hour and I can hear what’s going out of the speakers perfectly clearly. I did receive a phone-call from my husband and couldn’t hear him very well, but then I realised the phone volume for calls had been turned down.There is a light on the back of the helmet which either shows solid red or flashing red. It works very simply by pushing the very obvious button. Below that button is the charge point. It glows red when it’s charging and blue when it’s fully charged (I read someone else’s review that said there wasn’t a light to indicate it was charging so perhaps they’ve made an improvement to the helmet since then).Overall, this has been a great purchase. So much so, I’ve bought my husband one too.

Nach zweimal aufladen defekt – Problemloser Tausch via AmazonDer erste Helm war nach zweiten Mal aufladen defekt – tot – nichts ging mehr.Mir wurde via Amazon am nรคchsten Tag meiner Reklamation ein Ersatzhelm geschickt.Dieser funktioniert bisher problemlos.Ich und mein Mann haben uns diese Helme bestellt, um bei langen Fahrradtouren miteinander kommunizieren zu kรถnnen.Diese Funktion haben wir aber bisher kaum genutzt โ denn:Ich fahre mittlerweile stundenlang durch die Gegend und benutze den Helm, um Podcast zu hรถren.Mit Kopfhรถrern zu fahren ist mir einfach zu gefรคhrlich, da ich die Verkehrsgerรคusche nicht wahrnehmen kann.Da die Lautsprecher dieses Helms aber รผber den Ohren liegen, kann ich ohne Problem Autos oder andere Verkehrsteilnehmer hรถren. TOPDie Qualitรคt des Tons ist sicher nicht mit Kopfhรถrern zu vergleichen. Muss er meiner Meinung aber auch nicht. Wie gesagt, ich hรถre Podcast oder Hรถrbรผcher wรคhrend meiner Touren.Das Koppeln funktioniert einigermaรen problemlos.Dass man den Helm an einen Computer anschlieรen soll, um ein Firmwareupdate zu machen, finde ich ..witzig… wir haben 2023.Die dazugehรถrige App ist verbesserungswรผrdig.Auch ist der Helm sehr eng geschnitten, mit dem Drehregler hat man nicht sehr viel Spielraum.Der Gurt um den Hals ist eng und mich stรถrt er ein bisschen bei den Ohren, da meine Ohrringe immer hรคngenbleiben.Alternative habe ich leider keine gefunden – ich behalte ihn.

Great features, not great software
I got this specifically for the ability to connect to my phone, so I could make and receive phone calls, and get directions, on the move. When I first received it, the first thing it did was go into pairing mode to connect, and so this was no trouble. I tried to download the app, but the name given in the quick start guide is wrong, so it couldn’t be found. Search for “Sena cycling” (not “Sena Utility App” as written). Then it offered to upgrade the firmware, using the supplied USB cable (USB A to B). If you don’t have a computer, bad luck. If your computer doesn’t have USB A, bad luck. The app is almost useless โ the only thing I could use it to is turn off voice prompts. I had to quit and restart it a few times before it even let me do that!If you intend to listen to music, don’t buy this, because the speakers are nowhere near good enough for that. They’re useful only for voice.The helmet itself is fine, but itโs quite hard to get the fit to stay as it is โย every time I put it on, I notice that the head or chin straps have adjusted, so it lost a star for that.
